Artist's Description

"Rainbow Ribbons" is about society and the cutting of the safety net years ago. Poverty is represented in the dark lower part of the painting. Some people are holding onto the ribbons to get to opportunity, while another is pushing a cart in the darkness, or holding their breath as they sit at a desk after being downsized.

The Rainbow Ribbons represent hope. They are different colors leading to different things that help individuals climb out of poverty to opportunity. Each ribbon represents a social program to help regain one's balance in life.

The first ribbon is purple and represents programs that help individuals get a college education to support families, learn a trade, or build a career with one's talents.

Myra Maslowsky

Myra Maslowsky is a visual artist who has specialized in oil painting for over 40 years. In addition to having her art work in private collections, she has exhibited at various galleries in the Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh area. Her work was displayed at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in the Art Anonymous Exhibit for emerging artists. Her design for the Party Animal Project was accepted by the D.C. Arts and Humanities Commission, and chosen by the National Air and Space Museum to be displayed on their grounds at the National Mall. For several years, she has been a curator and exhibitor for Summit Connection at various International Embassy Exhibits in Washington, D.C.
